Comparing two massive Lifeline providers with very different perks.
SafeLink (owned by Verizon) utilizes Verizon and T-Mobile towers, offering arguably the best combined coverage map in the country. TruConnect operates primarily on the T-Mobile network. While both are excellent, SafeLink has a slight edge in extreme rural areas.
TruConnect is famous for being incredibly generous with data. In many states, TruConnect includes free international calling to select countries and a free Amazon Prime trial (where applicable). They also heavily promote free tablet offers (with the required .01 copay). SafeLink offers excellent standard plans, but TruConnect often bundles more "lifestyle" perks.
Both companies generally issue mid-range Android smartphones. TruConnect frequently issues their proprietary Cloud Mobile brand devices or Motorola phones. SafeLink issues a wide variety of Androids depending on local warehouse stock. Both have excellent BYOP programs if you prefer to use your own phone.
